Castelluccio di Norcia and its flowering
Castelluccio di Norcia is a unique quaint little village in the hearth of the Monti Sibillini national park.
The current residential settlement probably dates back to the XIII century.
Castelluccio was a fortress under the rule of the nearby town called Norcia to defend the pastures on the Eastern side of the area.
The sheep farming and agriculture have always played an important role for the village. In fact, they still represent the main business of this area, in addition to tourism.
This region has a great production of legumes and cereals, cold meats and cheese, and, of course, the prestigious black truffle of Norcia.
However, there is a special event which takes place every year that Castelluccio is known for: the flowering (Fioritura).
From the end of May to mid-July, flowers start to blossom on Castelluccio plain which becomes an inimitable colorful painting.
It is such a breathtaking experience to admire this true spectacle of nature.
This land is a real gem with unique landscape and views, amazing trekking paths and sport activities, and, last but not least, great genuine food.
